A lot of your veteran fly fishermen prefer the older reels with a bit of weight in them to maintain the balance that they are familiar with.

Thinking of purchasing a new fly reel in the near future, then you might want to think about getting two, one for your main and one for a backup in case of an emergency. To help you in the selection mark the line weight on your reel so you will not have to second guess your decision. This will be a huge timesaver when preparing for your fishing trip.
