Take A Costa Rica Fishing Vacation

Are you stuck in a windowless office all day, dreaming of clear water, fresh air, and sun? Do you enjoy angling or have you always wanted to try it? Costa Rica fishing is among the best in the world. There are many different species of fish to catch as Costa Rica is bordered by both Pacific and the Caribbean waters.
Sure, fishing in your little lake is fun because you know that the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of working. But, dont you deserve a vacation of a lifetime in one of the worlds great fisheries?
On Costa Rica’s North Pacific coast, the favored fishing centers are Flamingo and Tamarindo. Sailfish are available here year round but the peak season is May through August. From August to October, you can easily find large schools of tuna from 40 to 400 pounds. If roosterfish are your interest, visit the Bay of Papagayo around November to March, staying near the shorelines. Depending on the time of year, you also have a chance to hook wahoo, marlin, or the shimmering dorado.
Many people fishing in Costa Rica are looking for billfish and these beauties are most plentiful along the Central Pacific coast. Go to Los Suenos Marina or Quepos for a charter out to offshore waters to catch marlin and sailfish. December through April is the best time to catch these fighters. The vibrant dorado fish is often found here May to October while trolling. Closer to shore, you can land snook, snapper, roosters, and wahoo.
The South Pacific coast is home to the angling centers of Drake Bay, Puerto Jiminez, and the Golfo Dulce. Marlin (like the 400 pounder I recently caught and released) and sailfish can be caught when the waters are warm. There are lots of amberjack, roosters, wahoo, and large snapper inshore. The areas of Golfo Dulce are considered to offer the best inshore fishing in Costa Rica. It is very rocky with many coves where certain types of fish like to hide. Grouper, sea bass, and barracuda are some examples of what you can expect to catch here.
Costa Rica’s Caribbean waters contain the fishing areas of Barra del Colorado and Tortuguero. Although these waters are often very choppy, you can catch many types of deep sea fish on days when the water is flat. Avoid going during the rainy season, which is roughly January to March. The prized tarpon gamefish are plentiful here from May to November, and some reach about 150 pounds or more. This coast is one of the only places where you might catch a rare Atlantic sail. Other fish like snook are also readily available. You may even hook a giant grouper, guapote, tripletail, or Jack Crevalle!
If you want to get out of the office and see some incredible species of fish, a Costa Rica fishing trip may be just what you need! There are several vacation packages available online for sportfishing. Costa Rica is said to be the best deep sea fishing in the world so go put that reputation to the test!
