Something was lacking in my life. I had always been a keen course fisherman, but whilst I still wanted to catch fish, I was getting bored.
I visited a trout fishery to take a look. The fishery, near where I lived is a very pretty private fishery with two 2 acre lakes. The water is quite deep, 18 feet in places and the banks have trees and undergrowth making fishing a bit of a challenge.
I also found the lakes to be stunningly beautiful, and this, I believe, is important and the basis for my first tip:

Having fished all my life, I wanted to try something different, so a few years ago I took up fly fishing. Never the most patient person in the world, I wanted a version of fishing where I didn’t have to sit and wait for hours on end!
I visited a trout fishery to take a look. Larkwood in Suffolk, England is a very pretty private fishery with two 2 acre lakes. The water is quite deep, 18 feet in places and the banks have trees and undergrowth making fishing a bit of a challenge.

Many people will no doubt run across friends that are crazy about fishing, and it is almost weird if you haven’t because of the prevalent of this hobby shared by many enthusiasts around the world. This is especially true if you happen to live in a region where there are abundant lakes and sea. Fly fishing is not much different from fishing, as it is just a variation of it.

I enjoy all types of fishing, but I don’t enjoy just sitting and waiting for the fish, as in carp fishing for example, where one can sit for hours, even though this can result in the catching of a big fish.
It can be a long time until that buzzer starts screaming that you have a fish on the line, so I have not done very much of this type of fishing, preferring a more general approach.
This is because if I wasn’t catching fish, I would just move along the river until I did! That way I was always moving and never bored or sitting still.

Fly fishing varies quite a bit from the other forms of fishing.
Perhaps the most important single item to consider is the rod itself. In fly fishing, it is the rod that does the work for you.
One of the problems people first have when the take this variation of the sport up, particularly if they have spun or bait fished before, is adjusting to the fact that the more effort you put into the cast is not, unlike the other forms, the determining factor in how much distance is achieved.

Fly fishing has changed with the times. Still deeply rooted in the ancient past, the sport has taken on the trappings of modernity to enhance the participant’s experience. People who take a chance to learn all about fly fishing can enjoy communing with nature and joining the ranks of generations of anglers.
The idea behind fly fishing is to attract fish by setting “flies” out. These flies mimic the movements an insect would make on the surface of the water. Feathers and animal fur were often employed to construct flies. Horse hair and silk are indicative of some of the earlier materials used for lines, while rods depended mostly on the vegetation available in a given region. The goal was to find light materials that would help create the illusion of the fly being a live insect.
