Many people will no doubt run across friends that are crazy about fishing, and it is almost weird if you haven’t because of the prevalent of this hobby shared by many enthusiasts around the world. This is especially true if you happen to live in a region where there are abundant lakes and sea. Fly fishing is not much different from fishing, as it is just a variation of it.

You might that that fly fishing is difficult but by just taking the time to understand and master some of the basic, you’re ready to hit the lake and catch some fish of your own. This article will talk about some of the fly fishing basics that have seemed to elude so many people.

One of the very first thing you’ll need to understand is the reel and the rods used in these sort of fishing. The rods are generally taller and thinner and have a certain weight, which is different from your regular rods. So don’t be surprise to find that some of the fly fishing rods are really heavy, especially those that are use to go to the sea for saltwater fish.

The reel is also different from the normal reel and thus makes sure you ask the sales person about differences in reels before you attempt to buy any. Wrong equipments will mean a harder time to get any success.

Fishing lines found in fly fishing can also differ from your normal fishing line. Fly fishing lines are usually larger and more visible, which is a stark difference from your normal fishing lines which are usually invisible. When you are out buying your fly fishing line, you want to understand how the weight of these lines will affect your fishing, as different weights and lines are important in fly fishing.

Majority of the people in fly fishing will agree that artificial lures are being favored over living lures, and these artificial lures are usually being tied to the end of a tippet, which is essentially just a monofilament line tied at the end of the fishing line. Try to understand what insects grow in that particular region before you decide on your lure, as that can help trick fishes into thinking that it is real food.

A pontoon is possibly the most suitable boat that one might get at the time you need to spend a refreshing day fishing. This could be something you carry out either alone or with a few close friends or relatives. A lazy day spent on the water on your pontoon! Now is that not a fantastic idea?

Fishing from a pontoon is often very exciting not to mention enjoyable. It is like a fishing day spent in your front room. Well, why not if almost all of the familiar stuff you need are on your pontoon boat? From sofas, seats, tables, refrigerator, chillers, grill, you name it… and you’d believe you were actually inside your living room. And who will ever forget to put up the bimini tops which are ever loyal in protecting you from the damaging heat of the sun? In totality, a day on the pontoon boat such as this is rather relaxing. How much more fun should you add excitement to the proceedings?

A pontoon offers lots of room for each of your companions who like to fish. If your pontoon boat measures 24′, then it will be an ideal boat for a number of people. All sides of it are a good spot to remain whilst you fish. One can position himself at the stern, at the bow and both sides. Each person might prefer to sit or stand up while fishing.

Pontoon fishing is a pleasant activity for the duration of a lazy day. You’ll find a way to find diverse species of fish and you will demonstrate that every catch is as exciting as the next. And while you are waiting for your catches, you might engage in several activities that would without doubt kill the time away. You will not notice that the fishing lines are by now twiddling with fish and you will be able to compare them to one another.

Pontoon boat fishing can be very safe for kids because pontoons tend to have elevated sides in comparison to other boats. Putting your pontoon boat on calm waters is a definitive way to spend each day at the same time as fishing. These spots are the customary home of different fish species rather than the more turbulent part of the water. When the sunshine becomes even hotter, you might want to dive to have a cool dive in the water and after you are content, you may go back to your boat and eat your catch.

Pontoon boat fishing is really a pursuit where bonding between family and friends truly comes about. When you find yourself weighed down with life’s reality, tug your pontoon boat and head on to the water, drift off, go fishing, and release your worries.

by Zac Kurtsmier

I enjoy all types of fishing, but I don’t enjoy just sitting and waiting for the fish, as in carp fishing for example, where one can sit for hours, even though this can result in the catching of a big fish.

It can be a long time until that buzzer starts screaming that you have a fish on the line, so I have not done very much of this type of fishing, preferring a more general approach.

This is because if I wasn’t catching fish, I would just move along the river until I did! That way I was always moving and never bored or sitting still.

Then I discovered fly fishing for trout.

I had never fly fished before as I thought it was a bit complicated.

Tip 1. Fishing the fly is niether complicated or elitist.

As in all branches of fishing, there are some rivers that are more expensive to fish than others, but it is quite possible to fly fish and not increase your costs any more than if you were carp fishing for example.

Tip 2. Buy a combo.

Most retailers and manufacturers will supply the basics of rod, reel and line as a complete package which can save quite a bit of money, and allow you to perhaps buy a slightly better set of equipment than if you bought everything individually.

Tip 3. Don’t buy cheap.

It is arguable that you are more dependant on your rod for fly fishing success than in any other type of fishing. A fly fishing combo gives you the chance to perhaps spend a little more than you might have for a superior set of tackle.

A fly fishing rod is very different to any other type of fishing rod. Because you are casting a line, not a baited, weighted monofilament, the technique employed is a little different, and relys on the performance of the rod and your technique, rather than strength. Read up about them before purchasing to gain some understanding as to waht to look for.

Tip 4. Don’t complicate things!

After making your initial purpose of rod, reel and line, (and a few flies - a reasonable selection is often included), you will need a landing net, a priest, some monofilament and a pair of good quality nail clippers (for cutting lengths of monofilament). just about completes what you need.

Tip 5. Wear Appropriate Clothing

You don’t need to cover yourself with cammo clothing (although it is quite useful), but a simple fly fishing vest is a worthwhile investment. They generally have sufficient pockets to carry all you need without a cumbersome bag. Polarised glasses are also a good idea, some form of eye protection is essential, and often insisted on by fishery managers.

Tip 6. Keep moving.

When you fish, make sure you cover the water in front of you, to the left, right and centre and at different depths. However, if you haven’t had a “take” or a “knock” after 15 minutes or so, move on. I am amazed at the number of people who fish the same pace all day and then complain that they haven’t caught anything!

Tip 9. Don’t worry if you find casting difficult.

I was once given a fantastic tip by someone I regarded (and still do) as an expert fly fisher. He told me never to ignore the margins. Indeed I have caught some of my bigger fish close into the bank. So if it takes time for you to cast a good distance, don’t worry, practice by casting along the bank - your cast will improve and you’ll be fishing water often left untouched by others, with a great chance of catching.

Tip 8. Invest in some tuition.

Possibly the single most important thing you can do is get somelessons in casting. Not being able to cast effectively is the main reason people give up. It looks easy, and with a little practice it really is, but you need someone to show you the basics so you can practice free of bad habits which prevent effective casting.

Destin is known as the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” and is located in the Florida Panhandle. It is a city filled with a rich history and heritage dating back to the 16th century, when Spanish explorers surveyed Florida (1538 to be exact). However, Destin traces its immediate history to a fisherman by the name of Captain Leonard Destin, who relocated there in 1845 from London, Connecticut to start life anew in the small quaint area of Northwest Florida. He was the pioneer of the fishing industry, and the city has maintained that heritage to this very day with his name and fishing legend looming large.

Among the main attractions of Destin that attract millions of tourists here every year are the emerald green ocean waters and the white, sugar-sand beaches. Destin’s beaches have a reputation for having the whitest sand in the area. The fact that Destin also offers several dozen beach access points makes it very popular for visitors, as well. The beaches are a huge reason that fishing in Destin is very popular, of course. There are thousands of different species of fish that thrive in the ocean waters of Destin, from blue marlin and red snapper to swordfish and many other fabulous varieties. The possibilities are endless when it comes to reeling in a great catch.

Destin is known not only for its fishing industry but also as a major tourist attraction full of recreational activities and wonderful places to explore and play. This includes tennis, golfing, sailing in Destin Harbor, every kind of water sport, snorkeling, diving, surfing, swimming and, of course, fishing.

King of Destin’s delights

Fishing in Destin happens to be the most popular of all sports in the city, king of the many delights you will find there. With a permanent population of 11,119 residents, just about everyone that lives in Destin gets involved in the industry or sport of fishing (or both) and makes it a full-time family-oriented career or pastime. Since the sport of fishing has become so popular here over the years, the city has developed a great tournament called the Destin Fishing Rodeo that takes place once a year in the month of October.

The Destin Fishing Rodeo was established in 1948 and has been attracting anglers from all over the world ever since. Over 30,000 people come to Destin every year in order to compete in this fantastic tournament. Not only do adults get the chance to reel in some prize fish but kids, women and even seniors can join in the fun of the tournament. The tournament begins October 1st and ends October 31st. Anglers are able to join for free as long as they are aboard a boat that has been registered into the rodeo.

The rodeo can be very exciting as there is more than $100,000 in cash prizes awarded to daily, weekly and overall winners. A.J.’s Seafood and Oyster Bar is where you can do your daily weigh-ins from 10am until 7pm daily. You can be assured that every game fish that gets reeled in will be recognized in the rodeo and can also qualify for a prize. From marlin, king mackerel and sailfish to grouper and red snapper, all the fish you catch are in the running for a prize. However, not all prizes include cash, as there are several trophies given out as well as other merchandise.

On October 17, you can bring the kids down for the 12-and-under Okaloosa Island Pier fishing event. This fun-filled fishing event begins at 9am and ends with a yummy lunch at noon. This event is a great way to encourage parents to bring their children out for a fabulous fishing experience. The charter boat crews of Destin are very family oriented and simply love introducing kids to their very first fishing trips on charter boats. If boating is out of the question for your child then take them to the pier for some fun. They can cast their lines from there and get hooked on fishing as they reel in some fine specimens of fish themselves.

The Destin Fishing Rodeo is an event that is an all-around wonderful experience for both beginners and those that have tons of experience. It’s a great opportunity to win some fabulous prizes and spend time with family and friends, while you cast, fish and reel in some gorgeous catches.

If you are planning on going to Havana then finding a great deal on hotels might be a lot easier than you think. Havana hotels are actually less expensive than most American hotels and many offer the same features as you would find at home.

You can find a hotel on the beach where you can soak up plenty of sun. Most hotels provide air conditioning but if you are going during the summer you may want to ask to be sure. If site seeing is more your thing then you can get a hotel close to all of the popular locations.

Pizza seems to be a popular choice for a lot of tourists. Many reviews claim the food tends to be bland and lacking in spice. Of course personal tastes play a big role and you may find the food to be to your liking. At least try out the food and see for yourself rather than dismissing it off hand.

Some of the hotels are a bit run down. If you are looking for cheap, then expect to get what you pay for. You best option may be to read reviews from people who have stayed at each hotel and can give you specifics. Be sure to book ahead and ask questions.

Before booking accommodations it may be best to read reviews from people who have actually stayed at each hotel to find one that best suits your needs. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and using a travel agency may be advised to ensure good communication.

Proper planning can make for a wonderful vacation to Havana. Do some research and find the perfect Havana hotels today. With prices that fit any budget you are sure to get a great deal.

The Baja Peninsula stretches southward from the border of California for approximately 800 miles before terminating at Cabo San Lucas and is separated from the rest of Mexico by the Sea of Cortez. Despite its reputation as a parched, barren desert, it is actually a very rich expanse with several different ecosystems ranging from Mediterranean to moderate woodlands in the mountain ranges.

It is also adjacent to several of the most amazing saltwater fishing on the Pacific coast. The kind of fishing obtainable from one of the peninsula’s Mexico beach rental facilities is virtually as varied as the terrain. To be sure, there are lots of deep sea charter trips with experienced guides who will be happy to take you out into the Pacific or the Gulf in search of marlin, mahi-mahi or dolphin, but it’s just as feasible to take a more passive line of attack. Many fishermen who camp out along one of Baja’s unspoiled beaches find it just as fruitfull to set up a fishing pole, a line and some bait and let the fish come to them.

When it comes to low tech fishing, the natives can often teach visitors a thing or two. Using nothing more than glass bottle as a float, a lead weight and most any kind of inexpensive hook, local fisherman are able to cast a line a considerable distance into the water from the beach and wind up with some amazing catches.

If you wind up camping along the Sea of Cortez, you may do this kind of fishing out of necessity since markets are far apart and driving over the region’s primitive roads can be a bone jarring experience to say the least. A beach vacation rentals with a large refrigerator and kitchen is very convenient so you can stock up and not have to make too many trips into town for groceries.

There is another side to Baja fishing and that is the competitive deep sea fishing tournaments that are regularly held out of San Cabo. There are three of these held each year, one of which is toward the end of July and the others which take place around the middle of October. These are serious contests with equally serious prizes. In the 2010 East Cape Tournament, fifty six teams walked away with a total of over $304,000 in prize money, with one top prize of $64,515 going to a fisherman who snagged a nearly 600 pound marlin.

Baja is more than fishing. With some of the most gorgeous, unspoiled beaches on North America’s Pacific Coast, surfing is a popular pastime with visitors and the waves compare quite favorably with those off the coast of Hawaii. Baja ecotourism also include whale watching excursions during the migration season as the California gray whales make their way to and from Alaska. The tour boats get close enough to these huge, but friendly denizens of the deep for people to actually touch them. Baja Ecotours also offers scuba diving tours and photo excursions as well as eco friendly romantic getaways that are solar and wind powered.

When the weather turns warm, the minds of millions of people turn to a camping vacation. Once you have all your camping gear and all your supplies, you will need to select a camping ground. It is safer to camp on a designated camping site than just somewhere in the woods because of the danger presented by wild animals such as bears and stags. If you are going as a family, then you are better off with the bathroom facilities provided on a camping ground as well.

The first thing to decide is where you want to go. Many people go only a few miles down the road from where they live, others choose to go to a favourite destination such as the Pocono Mountains. Unfortunately, it is not easy to judge the quality of a camp site from its telephone number and not all camping grounds are on the Internet yet. Going to a poor camping ground can ruin your camping holiday, so it is worth checking the camp ground on the Internet or asking to be sent a brochure.

Another good reason for viewing some advertising material is so that you can judge whether the on site amenities make the camp ground good value for money. Again there are no hard and fast rules, some people like to see a different show every night while others prefer to walk about or just sit and talk with neighbours or each other. If you are taking children, there should be something for them to do during the day such as organized nature rambles or and a swimming pool and other sports facilities.

Adult amenities should include fishing rights, boat hire facilities and nature trails and a swimming pool during the day, while at night, any shows that they put on should not be so loud as to spoil the effect of communing with nature for others. Many people leave the cities for a camping holiday in order to escape the noise, if you think like that, then make sure that you pick a camping ground that does not cater specifically to younger people who might want to dance and carouse all night.

In the same vein, if you have a young family and you as a parent want to go to the shows, are there baby sitting facilities available or is there at least a park warden who walks around the camping at night who could look in on your kids every now and then?

Other amenities to look out for are shops, hairdressers and a first aid centre and the cost of using these facilities. Often the camp shops are a lot more expensive than like shops in the local village, but do you really want to be going off camp every time you want a loaf of bread or a six pack? Of course, you can take stuff with you but if you are going for a week or two, it is never enough and you are sure to forget something. A journey into a near by village every other day while visiting the attractions would be all right though, if there are any communities near by that is.
